Foreword to a publication
Foreword A Circle in a room full of squares
The first publication of the Middle Schooling Association of Western Australia highlights the experience of teachers who, across the state, are defining education for the middle years in their development and implementation of target programs. The articles and case studies presented in the publication illustrate the diversity emerging in traditional high schools, new purpose built middle schools, district high schools and primary schools.
Within their articles schools, teachers and administrators have claimed that restructuring, teacher collaboration, the Curriculum Framework and teacher initiative are the major drivers of change, with an emphasis on student participation and retention emerging as common themes.
Copies of this publication are available from Emmy Terry at a cost of $15.00 (including GST). Please contact Emmy Terry at the Department of Education on 9264 5809 if you wish to place an order for the 2001 publication.
Middle schooling: A Western Australian Perspective
The Middle Schooling Association of Western Australia launched its 2002 publication at the Annual General Meeting held on 19 June 2002.
The articles included in the 2002 publication demonstrate how extensively our collective experience in the delivery of middle schooling has developed over recent years. Clearly, there is now a shift from the descriptive studies of how schools and teachers are implementing middle schooling practices to action research and the critical analyses of processes and outcomes.
Articles cover a diverse range of themes including academic rigour, education support, the collaborative team approach, technology, literacy, values education, the use of rubrics in the classroom and many more. The keynote contribution by Rod Chadbourne provides a case for separate middle years teacher training program.
All members of the Association will receive a few copy of the publication. Additional copies are available at $18.00 per copy (including GST).
Please contact Emmy Terry on 9264 5809 at the Department of Education if you wish to place an order for the 2002 publication.
